Description
We rebuild steering racks by disassembling, degreasing, and performing a thorough inspection of all internal parts. We replace the outer bushings with new bushings that allow for a tighter tolerance. We clean the casting thoroughly and coat it with a protectant. We cover the original identification tags to prevent damage during the rebuild. The internals are inspected for pitting then cleaned and polished to reduce excess friction during operation. We inspect the gearing and replace the drag puck to bring your rack back to factory specification.
All external steel parts, including the yoke and access covers, are then plated and new gaskets are installed. While the service manual calls for a general-purpose grease, we use a white lithium grease. This was chosen because it is the best grease for metal on metal contact and it shows that there are no contaminants left inside the rack.
