Customer Cars: Kristin Attaway's 1974 Matching Numbers 914

We love seeing what exciting projects our customers are currently working on. Every month we would like to showcase a couple of cars in whatever state they are in - on the road or on the rack. This month’s Customer Car Story comes from Kristin Attaway and her 1974 matching numbers 914. 




The car came with all the original paperwork and owner’s manual. Originally ordered with Light Ivory paint, this 914 was purchased by the Air Monitor Corp. Company from Felton Porsche/ Audi on August 9th, 1974.




 At some point after that it changed hands in San Jose before briefly ending up in Oregon where it was used to tow a small boat.






The car then made its way back down south and in 2018 Kristin acquired the car in Pasadena, California. Since then, she has been slowly rebuilding the car with some help from her friend, and 914 expert, Bruce Stone. 




In 2020, the car was repainted Zambezi Green and it has helped breathe new life into the car. Kristin is anticipating completing the car by June of this year and can’t wait to drive it all over California and beyond! It’s great to see so much of the original documentation survived the tides of time and we are thrilled to see another 914 hit the road with a proud owner behind the wheel. Customer Cars: Utah Valley University Racing Team's Endurance 914

We love seeing what exciting projects our customers are currently working on. Every month we would like to showcase a couple of cars in whatever state they are in - on the road or on the rack.



This month's customer car story comes from Matt Hasara. Matt is an Assistant Professor who is sharing the Utah Valley University racing team's student-built 914.

 
 
The team is made up of college students from the automotive and engineering departments of the university. For almost 5 years, the team drove a Miata in endurance races and then decided to start a new project during the Covid-19 restrictions. This led them to acquire a 914 as the program's new endurance race car. The car has a GT chassis reinforcement kit welded in along with a full roll cage and a removable petty bar. It has also been completely stripped out to reduce as much weight as possible.

 


Brembo brakes have been added up front along with a set of 993 brake cooling deflectors and M-calipers have been installed in the rear. A full GT oil cooler has been set up in the front and a transmission cooler has been installed in the rear. The team plans to run a 2.7-liter 911 S engine with a 901 transmission that has been modified with shortened gears. if everything goes well they are hoping to get the car on track this spring for testing and preparation for a race in August.

 


The racing team students learn  many different types of skills - from engine building, to suspension setup, trackside prep, and even some driving skills. This also gives them the opportunity to develop team leadership skills as they work with their peers. Plus, they learn to work with social media promoting their efforts and successes. It's been a very rewarding project for everyone.

Customer Cars: Jeremy Rex's 1974 914 with Beach Boys Racing Body

We love seeing what exciting projects our customers are currently working on. Every month we would like to showcase a couple of cars in whatever state they are in - on the road or on the rack.



This months customer car story comes from Jeremy Rex and his 1974 914 featuring a Beach Boys Racing body kit.

 


Jeremy's car is currently on the rotisserie getting all underlying sheet metal issues addressed properly. He is planning to install a 996 big brake kit with a Boxster S 6-speed transmission mated up to a Honda K24 engine. You can see more of his car on Youtube at his channel Gasholes Garage. This is going to be a fun little street rocket once its back on the road, we are excited to see what comes next for him! Thanks for the great submission Jeremy.

Customer Cars: Dave McKenna's 1976 914

We love seeing what exciting projects our customers are currently working on. Every month we would like to showcase a couple of cars in whatever state they are in - on the road or on the rack.


This month's submission comes from Dave McKenna with his 1976 914. The car was a barn find that Dave came across and bought in 2015 and just recently became roadworthy.



At the time it had no transmission, no floor pan, and the engine was disassembled and spread out across several boxes of parts. He did a bare metal restoration on a rotisserie that took 5 1/2 years to complete. The 2.0 L engine was rebuilt with all new components from LNENGINEERING and now sits at 2563 cc @ 195 hp. Between the new engine and all the new seals from 914Rubber it's like driving a brand new car according to Dave, and is a blast to drive.
